Sissel Tolaas is artist, scientist and specialist of smell based in Berlin. Since 1990 she has been 100% focused on the study of smell. She runs the SMELL REsearch-Lab, a laboratory that aims to study the relationship between odors, communication and language and rethinking our current vision of the nose, smell and olfaction process. Since 1998 she also works on the City SmellScape project whose goal is to capture the smells of cities like Paris, Stockholm, Detroit. She is currently working to capture the smell of Shanghai, Nuuk, Taipei and Tel Aviv. Sissel Tolaas collaborates with various institutions such as Harvard University, MIT, MOMA or the BBC.
